Primary Communities

  • Inspire organic learning

Around age three, the child’s physical changes begin to slow and the focus turns towards refining movements and classifying and understanding all of the input that has been absorbed through the senses. Children in our Primary Communities, ages 2 ½ to 6 years old, learn best by doing. Our Primary Guides are trained to observe the child’s interests and skills and to know just the right way and time to present a lesson so that the child cannot wait to try it.

The Montessori curriculum, based on self-chosen, non-competitive activities, helps children develop strong self-images and the confidence to face challenges and change with optimism. Our children display better social and behavioral abilities, demonstrating a greater sense of justice and fairness.

Our primary communities are full of beautiful materials that are available for exploration and learning. Children in this stage of development have an “absorbent mind” and learn by observing others in the community. It is typical for a classroom community to have an “explosion” of reading or math activities, as one child’s interests ignite another’s and pretty soon, they are all reading, or counting to 100, or practicing multiplication tables!

This dynamic learning environment is best observed in person. Please call or click here to schedule a tour.
